Class Review: Lagree at MAD Chelsea
This month’s class review is on the ‘Classic Lagree – Full Body’ class at ‘MAD Pilates’ in Chelsea.
Studio Overview:
Located on the King’s Road in Chelsea, MAD Pilates offers a classic Lagree experience, focusing on full-body workouts. The studio specialises in Lagree using the Megaformer, offering a challenging but low impact option.
MAD Pilates offers high-intensity, low-impact Lagree workouts designed to be both effective and sustainable. Every class provides a challenging workout that combines core, endurance, cardio, balance, strength and flexibility training for unparalleled results.
The Workout
The Strength class at MAD Pilates combines Pilates principles with elements of body building, resulting in a high-intensity yet low-impact workout. The class uses slow movements to target slow-twitch muscle fibres, incorporating isometric holds, pulses, variations, and twists. The sessions are 50 minutes in duration, designed to work the body evenly through well-paced timing.
Mona provided clear and tips and cues on both alignment, position and pacing throughout the session. There are options to adjust the resistance according to your fitness level, with heavier springs for advanced individuals and lighter ones for beginners.
- Warm-up: The class starts with a 5-10 minute core-focused warm-up.
- Left side activation: Left oblique and left leg exercises.
- Arm work: Transitions into exercises targeting the arms.
- Right side activation: The sequence is then reversed, targeting the right leg and right oblique.
- Core Finisher: The session concludes with a core finisher.
- Cool Down: Ends with a cool-down and stretches.
Round Up
A massive thank you to Mona for having me down and guiding me through the workout – I had a great experience in this class! It really pushed me out of my comfort zone while keeping me aligned. The class strikes a perfect balance between physical and mental wellbeing, with clear cues that help clients feel supported and confident throughout the movements.
The Verdict
- Sweat: 5/10 – Lagree focuses on slow, controlled movements, leading to less cardio-intensive sweating but deep muscle fatigue
- Endorphins: 8 /10
- Recommendation: 10 /10
